The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) has already been making waves by offering affordable dental care to millions of Canadians. But this May, the program is opening its doors even wider.

If you’ve been waiting for your chance to apply, your time may be just around the corner. Here's everything you need to know about the updated eligibility timeline for May 2025.

What’s New in May?

The CDCP is gradually expanding its coverage to include more age groups. Starting in May 2025, eligible Canadian residents who previously couldn’t apply will now be able to submit their applications in stages:

  • May 1, 2025 – Applications open for individuals aged 55 to 64
  • May 15, 2025 – Applications open for those aged 18 to 34
  • May 29, 2025 – Applications open for people aged 35 to 54

This phased rollout is designed to ensure a smooth process and allow more Canadians to access essential dental services without financial strain.

Who’s Already Eligible?

As of now, the following groups can already apply:

  • Seniors aged 65 and older
  • Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit (DTC) certificate
  • Children under the age of 18

If you fall into one of these categories and meet the general criteria, you can already take advantage of the plan.

General Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

  • Not having access to dental insurance
  • Have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • Have filed tax return for the previous year

These requirements ensure the program supports those who need it most.

Why This Expansion Matters

In 2022, it was reported that 1 in 4 Canadians skipped dental visits due to cost. With the expansion of eligibility, millions more Canadians can now receive preventive care, address existing issues, and improve their overall health without worrying about the financial burden.
