Frequently asked questions
- How Often Should I See the Dentist?
- What Forms of Payment Do We Accept?
- Is Teeth Whitening Safe?
On average we recommend visiting our office for a cleaning and checkup once every six months. This allows us to remove any buildup that has accumulated on your teeth, take X-rays to monitor the condition of your teeth and supporting bones, monitor the health of your gums, and screen for oral cancer and other early warning signs of possible health conditions.
Depending on your health and individual condition we may recommend more frequent visits. For example, during pregnancy, your oral health needs will change due to hormone fluctuations. Patients requiring care for gingivitis or periodontal disease may also require more frequent visits to our office.
Your oral health is an integral part of your overall health. The importance of dental hygiene visits goes beyond simply cleaning your teeth. Regular visits to our office allow us to screen for oral cancer and look for early warning signs of health issues that appear in your mouth first. We will work with you to maintain your healthy mouth and body as well as your beautiful smile.
Our office accepts assignments for most insurance providers. This means that we will collect payment from your insurance company, allowing you to only pay the estimated portion that is not covered, rather than the entire cost of services upfront.
If you have dental coverage as part of your benefits package (that does not allow assignment)we will submit any claims on your behalf, so that you are reimbursed by your insurance company.
Please note: that not all insurance plans cover 100% of the costs associated with dental care. We would be pleased to help you understand your plan but it is always best to contact your insurer directly if you have specific questions regarding your coverage.
For portions of our services that are not covered by your insurance policy, our office accepts cash, direct debit, cheque, and most major credit cards.
In Short, the answer is yes. If you are healthy and your teeth are in good condition, the Teeth Whitening procedure is safe.
Consumer awareness of cosmetic dentistry combined with the availability of over-the-counter products and affordable in-office whitening solutions has garnered Tooth Whitening a lot of attention. The results of Teeth Whitening can be dramatic and can undoubtedly improve the appearance of your teeth.
Tooth Whitening is a process that uses a 'bleaching' gel to lighten the shade of your teeth. The active component of the gel is usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. When applied to your tooth, the active component breaks down into oxygen molecules penetrating the tooth enamel. The oxygen molecules effectively break apart the stains that are causing your teeth to appear yellow, brown, or dull.
While there is insufficient research, we do not recommend whitening during pregnancy and remind you that you should consult with your dentist before beginning any oral treatment. Whitening is cosmetic in nature and although it will enhance your smile it does not improve the actual health of your teeth.
